Barnsley have appointed John Vaughan as their new goalkeeping coach.

Vaughan, who turns 51 tomorrow, spent more than five years as goalkeeping coach at Huddersfield Town before following manager Lee Clark to Birmingham City.He left the Blues last season.

Vaughan's longest spell as a player was with Cambridge United from 1988 to 1993, during which time he worked under Gary Johnson whose son Lee is now the head coach of Barnsley.

The new coach will replace Hoyland man Mark Crossley who left Oakwell for Chesterfield last month.

Vaughan – who is credited with developing Huddersfield's highly-rated stopper Alex Smithies – will work with Adam Davies, Ross Turnbull and Christian Dibble.
