A SCHOOL which has been heavily criticised by education officials in previous years has been lauded for turning its fortunes around.

Shafton Primary Academy, which was told to improve across the board by Ofsted inspectors in December 2013, is celebrating after being labelled as a ‘good’ school which has outstanding aspects.

Lead inspector Kathleen McArthur, who visited the school on November 18, heaped praise on its management, early years provision, quality of teaching and pupils’ behaviour in her report which was published this week.

She said: “Outstanding and determined leadership, driven by the highest aspirations to provide the best for every pupil, has steered the academy through a period of rapid change.

“As a result, the academy is improving in all areas. Achievement has risen, the quality of teaching and behaviour has improved and pupils flourish in a vibrant learning community.”
