TWO teenagers helped to save a man's life by ignoring advice being relayed to them from the ambulance service.

Ashley Guy, 16 and Tony Bennett, 17, both St John Ambulance Brigade cadets, knew exactly what to do when Arthur Millthorpe fell ill in Options Gym, Grimethorpe.

The lads decided to ignore the ambulance service advice because it wasn’t what they had been taught to do.

Arthur had suffered a brain haemorrhage. The duo first cleared his airway and after he had been sick put him in the recovery position to prevent his tongue sticking in his throat.

Arthur, 51, a factory worker at Sash, was taken to hospital and then transferred to the Royal Hallamshire where he underwent a three hour operation on his brain.
