GROOM-TO-BE Gene Morgan is recovering in hospital after plunging around 40ft from a hotel drainpipe during his stag party in Blackpool.
Gene, 33, of High Street, Shafton, was climbing down the pipe from his fourth storey bedroom window when it came away from the wall under his weight.
He was taken to Victoria Hospital in Blackpool last weekend after suffering serious back and pelvis injuries. He was later transferred to Barnsley Hospital.
Gene’s party was staying at the Florida Hotel, and owner Ron Dodson said he may have been trying to escape a stag party prank by his friends.
“As far as I know he climbed through the window, which opens at the top, and was on the fourth floor.
“The silly lad tried to get get down the drainpipe - it happened at about 7am because I was making breakfast.
“He was upstairs in his bedroom. I think he’d stitched somebody up at a previous stag do and was scared they were going to get him.”
