Barnsley made it three wins from their first three home league games since their return to the Championship with a 4-0 thrashing of their South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United.

Marc Roberts and Adam Hammill scored within three minutes of each other earlier in the second half then Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Kent got their first Barnsley goals late on. It was a dominant performance from the Reds, who are now third in the Championship with nine points from five games.

Paul Heckingbottom made three changes to the side which lost at Huddersfield a week earlier. Alfie Mawson, who is completing a move to Premier League Swansea City, was replaced at centre-back by debutant Angus MacDonald. Sam Winnall returned to the side following injury, with Tom Bradshaw dropping to the bench, while Andy Yiadom came in at right-back to replace the injured James Bree.

Barnsley had the better of the opening exchanges as Winnall headed a Yiadom cross wide from close range then Roberts scuffed wide after Conor Hourihane's free-kick was not cleared by the visiting defence. Rotherham goalkeeper Lee Camp then beat away Hammill's powerful effort from the edge of the box after a Hourihane shot had deflected straight to the former United winger following a lovely Marley Watkins touch.

The Millers tested Adam Davies for the first time on 27 minutes when the Barnsley goalkeeper leapt to his left to catch a weak Jake Forster-Caskey effort after good work from Izzy Brown and Scott Allan. That was the last real action of a first half that Barnsley edged.

Barnsley began the second half well with Hourihane's deflected shot floating just wide of the right post after a fine run by his midfield partner Josh Scowen.

The opening goal eventually came ten minutes after the break when Hammill's free-kick from the left was tapped in at the back post by Roberts.

Hammill got the second three minutes later against his former club as he came in from the left wing and struck a low 25-yard shot which took a large deflection to wrong-foot Camp as it went in.

Stefan Payne came on for Winnall but limped off with an injury three minutes later and was replaced by Bradshaw, who netted the third on 86 minutes. Bradshaw's first Barnsley goal was an excellent header from the left of the six-yard box into the right side of the net after Yiadom had floated in an excellent cross.

Kent completed the rout by curling into the top right corner after exchanging passes with Hourihane on the edge of the box.
