BUS services have been badly affected because so many roads have been blocked by floods and several schools have sent pupils home.
Stagecoach spokeswoman Sue Hayes said the firm was doing all it could to keep services going but the weather was causing havoc.
She said: "We are running where we can but a lot of through routes to Doncaster or Rotherham are struggling because there are so many roads blocked. "We're doing what we can. Our staff are working tirelessly to keep things moving." Ms Hayes said the rain had blocked Hunningley Lane, Kendray; Pontefract Road, Hoyle Mill; Wakefield Road, Smithies; Sheffield Road, Hoyland; the Grimethorpe bypass, Wilthorpe Road, Redbrook and Lee Lane, Royston. There were problems elsewhere. Scores of schools sent pupils home early because of the flooding.
