FASHION student Holly Scarfe could not sew when she started her clothes design course.

But she's now got the skill stitched up and has created these two designs as part of her final year project.

Holly, 19, said: "I think I've picked sewing up quite well, it was mainly getting used to the sewing machines at college because they are industrial machines."

She used dance as a idea on which to base her work and has created ballet and flamenco inspired dresses. Holly, of Crown Well Hill, Ardsley, said: "It is a lot of work. I came up with the designs and then had to do illustration boards.

"You have to look around for inspiration for colours and spend a lot of time cutting things out of magazines for ideas. Then you have to make all your patterns in rough fabric to see what works and how it looks.

"I had to redraft my patterns a few times then when I was happy had to make everything out of the best fabric."
