BARNSLEY East and Mexborough MP Jeff Ennis is backing calls to use fake fur in military bearskin hats.
He is among 176 MPs to sign the motion which is supported by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
PETA say it can take the entire hide of a bear, which are shot in Canada, to make one hat.
PETA campaigner Anita Singh said: "We commend Jeff Ennis for his compassionate and progressive stance. With the support of MPs the bear slaughter may soon go the way of fox hunts and fur farms which have no place in 21st century British society."
