ONE of the country's top bowling competitions has been cancelled because of rain damage to a Dodworth green.
Long-term wear and tear on the miners’ welfare green has been made worse by this year's heavy rain, and it is now in need of a £3,000 re-turf.
League games still to be played on the green have been brought forward, but the club has been forced to cancel the Stanley Collins Memorial Trophy.
Competitors from all over the country take part in the trophy, and more than 100 have already entered. Secretary Brian Reed apologised to bowlers affected by the decision and said they should contact him as soon as possible if they wished to have their fees refunded.
