THE council has set itself an ambitious target of turning around the lives of 2,000 troubled families in Barnsley by 2020.
‘Troubled families’ are households that have a combination of serious problems such as truancy issues, crime and antisocial behaviour, domestic violence and debt.
The council works with these families to help them turn their lives around with the intention of saving money from the public purse that would otherwise be spent dealing with their problems.
The target of improving the lives of 2,000 families was revealed at a council scrutiny committee by Jayne Hellowell, who is head of commissioning for healthier communities for Barnsley Council.
