Barnsley's policy of signing players under the age of 25 means it is unlikely they will bring in any free agents this season, says their head coach.
The Reds cannot buy or loan players but can bring in unattached players. Head coach Paul Heckingbottom said: "We will be looking, we would be daft if we weren't. But the difficulty is the age of players we like to recruit.
"Any young players out of contract generally aren't good enough. There are some older ones out there but they might not be right for us."
Heckingbottom admits the Reds are monitoring Chester centre-back Sam Hughes. He also said Elliot Lee wanted to leave on loan but added: "The opportunity he wanted didn't arise so he's just going to knuckle down and try to force his way into our team."
