THE old Scout Dyke centre could be expanded with new “glamping” facilities in a move which would open it up to increased visitor numbers and create new jobs, though it would also involve developing green belt land.

Council planners are being asked for permission to go ahead with the work by Kingswood Inspired Learning, a Doncaster based firm which has run the council-owned facility since 2006.

Current accommodation can hold 218 visiting children and 21 teachers but Kingswood wants to invest in the centre, by installing 11 new pods, a yurt, two club lodges along with a toilet and shower block, paths and landscaping.

They have described it as an “exciting new ‘glamping style’ experience for visiting children and teachers” which will, if allowed, “provide an alternative type of accommodation for visitors and help to sustain the future of the centre for Kingswood, while contributing to the economy of the local area through additional jobs created.”
