Shaw Lane AFC have dedicated their league and cup double to Dan Wilkinson who died while playing for them in September.

The Ducks beat Frickley Athletic 1-0 at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane on Wednesday to win the Sheffield Senior Cup, two days hours after securing the Evo-Stik Division One South title. The club have so far raised more than £16,000 of an intended £50,000 for the Daniel Wilkinson Foundation which was set up to provide equipment, training and health screening for grassroots football. The 24-year-old died after a cardiac arrest during a game.

Owner Craig Wood said: "Just before we scored in the cup final, someone said 'Dan will get us over the line'.         He has been the 12th man in the dressing room and driven us to the double. The most important thing is to keep the foundation going and help to save lives."

Spencer Harris, who scored in the final, said: "Everything we have done is for Dan. We have worn black armbands all season with #DW on them. "Every time the going has got tough, someone in the dressing room has said 'do it for Dan'." Shaw Lane will play a charity match for Wilkinson on Sunday at the Blackburn Leisure Centre in Brough against a legends XI from his hometown club Hull City including Dean Windass.
