A FORMER Barnsley teenager is on course for a career at sea having completed the first stage of Royal Navy training.

Trainee naval airman Jarvis Archer, 16, joined the service in April and moved to Cornwall to attend HMS Raleigh.

He has now completed an intensive ten-week course designed to teach him the skills he will rely upon throughout his career.

The former Holy Trinity pupil said: “Training was tough and a challenge, but as I gelled with a good group of lads things were easier.

“I joined the Royal Navy to become a better person and to have a lifelong career and a highlight of my training will be driving boats and learning how to use a rifle.”
