THIEVES struck twice at a golf club stripping more than 60-metres of lead from the roof, threatening plans for future development on the site.

Silkstone Golf Club suffered two substantial thefts in the space of a couple of days, with 25m of lead flashing taken from the club house in the first incident last weekend and the remaining 40m nicked last Tuesday.

Alan Mills, house chairman, said the club will be about £3,000 out of pocket after replacing the stolen lead. It has been substituted with a non-lead equivalent product to deter future thefts.

Mr Mills, 63, suspects it could be the same culprits responsible for both attacks.
