A MAN is in a critical condition after being found collapsed in the street by police officers last night.

Emergency services were called to Mottram Street, Barnsley, just before 7.35pm following reports that two men were collapsed in the street. Police believe they may have taken drugs.

A 55-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he currently remains in a critical condition. A second man, aged 47, has been arrested on suspicion of drug related offences and is in police custody.

Barnsley Superintendent Sarah Poolman, said: "I'm aware that this incident has caused some concern within the local community, however I'd like to reassure residents that we are not treating this as an assault at this time.

'I'd like to thank local residents for their patience while officers attended to the two men and examined the scene."
