A TEAM of young footballers are catching the eyes of spectators - not least with their skills on the pitch but with their striking new kit.
The JD Juniors’ under 10s’ bright orange strip bears the logo of the Barnsley Dementia Champions, which has sponsored the team to spread awareness of the group and the work it does to support those with dementia.
Vicki Wallace, who is a dementia champion and nine-year-old son Caden is in the team, said the coaches were really impressed with the kit.
“It’s a great talking point,” said Vicki. “The team wore their new kits on Sunday for their first match of the season and won 5-1.
“The Barnsley Dementia Champions fund-raise and everything we raise we give back to the community for people living with dementia or people who can promote awareness of dementia so we thought with the boys playing football and going everywhere it would help promote awareness of dementia in the community.
“They were so proud to wear it.”
The team was based at Athersley but now trains in Woolley.
