Shaw Lane AFC have won seven matches in a row including their victory in the third round of FA Cup qualifying which set up their 'biggest ever game.'

The Ducks beat Lancaster City 2-1 on Saturday to reach the final qualifying round against AFC Barrow on October 15, with the winners going through to the first round proper which will also include clubs from League One and League Two.

Barrow are currently 20th out of 24 in the National League, formerly the Conference, after winning two of their 14 matches this season and none of their last six.The Cumbrian club were a Football League regular for many decades and have played Barnsley FC 19 times, losing 14, although not since 1970.

Shaw Lane manager Craig Elliott said: "It will definitely be the biggest game in our history and hopefully we win it then get an even bigger draw in the next round. Barrow are two leagues above us but they are struggling a bit in their league and, with the run we are on, they won't be relishing coming to play us.

"We'll be underdogs but we'll be going for the win and, if we get it, we could draw a massive club like Blackburn Rovers, Coventry City or Rotherham United in the first round."

Damien Reeves, the striker who knocked Barnsley out of the FA Cup two years ago when playing for Altrincham, scored both goals for the Ducks against Lancaster at the weekend. Reeves then scored another double, within three first half minutes, on Tuesday night as Shaw Lane went 2-0 up at Mickleover Sports. Former Derby County and Rotherham defender Pablo Mills pulled one back just before half-time but visiting substitute Chib Chilaka secured the win with an 86th-minute strike.

It was a seventh successive win for Shaw Lane, who have secured victory in 13 of their last 14 since losing the opening two fixtures of the campaign. They are three points clear at the top of the league in the only automatic promotion place into the National League North.

Elliott said: "To have won 13 out of 14 having only just got promoted is fantastic and it is great to be top of the league. I can't give enough credit to all of the lads who are playing out of their skins at the moment."

Reeves, who moved from Altrincham to Shaw Lane in the summer, now has nine goals for the season and seven in the Ducks' last six matches. Elliott said: "He wasn't starting much at the start of the season because of the formation I was playing but he's forced his way into the team and he's on great form. He's a class act, a great finisher and an example to all the other players."
