A HEADTEACHER suspended after a disgraced teacher was appointed as her consultant has quit her post - but no action is being taken against the man she brought in.

Mark Braine was made consultant to Royston High headteacher Kay Jenkins in the spring - even though a General Teaching Council order ruled he should not hold senior management posts.

The Chronicle exclusively revealed in April that the GTC had found Mr Braine bullied staff, promoted his wife and had inappropriate 'close relationships' with female workers when he worked at a school in Rugby.

He and Ms Jenkins were suspended by Barnsley Council while they investigated the circumstances of his appointment.

Mr Braine was told by the General Teaching Council in June that he had done nothing wrong in taking the Royston job and could stay in the post. And now, according to Barnsley Council sources, he has been cleared of wrongdoing by the Local Education Authority.

This could not be officially confirmed by the council yesterday but Mr Braine said: "My understanding is that the LEA has taken the stance that I will not be facing any disciplinary charges."

He said he was unlikely to return to Royston, although he is entitled to do so.
