AN 80-year-old woman was savagely beaten by a young woman on Boxing Day. She was knocked to the ground and kicked and stamped on as she walked close to the Pulse and Cocktails shop on the corner of Hoyle Mill Lane and Doncaster Road. The lady, who has not been named, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Barnsley hospital where she underwent surgery yesterday.
The attack took place at about 4.30pm. The attacker, a slim white female in her mid 20s who was about 5”10, walked away up Doncaster Road and onto Neville Avenue at Kendray.
She had long dark hair tied back in a ponytail and was dressed in a long black coat, dark trousers and carrying a multi coloured carrier bag.
A spokesman for the police said: “We are shocked and appalled by the ferocity of the attack.” He urged anyone who has any information about the assault to call Barnsley police on 736030 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
