A PENSIONER is £3,650 out of pocket after paying upfront for a stairlift from Wilson Mobility which never arrived, and now the company has gone bust.
Stan Shaw, 81, of Main Street, Wombwell, paid on November 26. On Wednesday January 30 he received an answer phone message saying an engineer would arrive the next day between 12 and 2pm to fit it.
But the next day he did not arrive and Wilson Mobility was shut. It has not opened since.
Mr Shaw said: "It is a lot of money. I can't go out and earn it again at my age. It's been preying on my mind for the last two weeks because I've got no idea what's going on. We couldn't get in touch with them so we didn't know what to think.
"For the first couple of days you think maybe there's something wrong at home, but after two weeks it I knew it was something serious.
"Maybe I shouldn't have paid up front. He's been very good in the past. I bought a few things from him.
If I had a puncture on my scooter he'd be here in less than half an hour to fix it. He wouldn't just repair it either - he'd fit a new tube."
Mr Shaw and his family could not contact Paul Wilson, who ran the business as a sole trader.
