A DOG was left close to death after being bitten by a venomous snake in woods near Cawthorne.
Tilly, a cocker spaniel bitch, was struggling to stand after the attack by an adder in Deffer woods.
Owner Chris Harrison took the pet to the vets but then had to drive to Leeds to get the antidote before she made a full recovery.
The drama started when Chris was walking Tilly, who belongs to daughter, Georgie, nine, on Easter Sunday.
He heard one-year-old Tilly yelp and then noticed she was behaving strangely.
