HANDY footballer Jacob Vaughan has been snapped up by the Sheffield United academy.

The eight-year-old goalkeeper has played for the Hoyland Common Falcons for the last three years, but is celebrating after impressing professional scouts.

Jacob, of Moorbridge Crescent, Brampton, started playing at Brampton Leisure Centre when he was four.

Mum Alison said: “Jacob’s dad played as a goalkeeper and his cousins are into football too. He supports Bradford City which is where his dad is from so there should be some arguments in the house now he’s signed for Sheffield United.

“We’re very proud of him - if nothing comes of it at least he can say he’s played for the academy of a top club.”

Jacob, who attends Brampton Ellis school, is also a cricket fan and plays for Elsecar.
