A MAN trapped in his flat when fire broke out was rescued by firemen wearing breathing apparatus.
The 20-year-old, who was unconscious, was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
He reported the fire at just after 10pm on Sunday saying he was trapped in the flat in Margaret Close, Darfield.
A spokesperson for the fire services said: "He phoned explaining that his only exit, through the kitchen, was blocked off.
"We told him to go to the nearest window and stay there until we came."
"We found him on the floor unconscious under the window, where he had obviously gone after following our advice."
He was given oxygen at the scene and taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and shock.
The fire took just over an hour to extinguish and ten people in neighbouring flats were evacuated.
The spokesperson added: "I think he is going to be OK. The fire damage was limited to a cupboard in the kitchen, the rest of the flat suffered from smoke damage."
The fire is thought to have been started deliberately.
