A COCKER Spaniel who battled digestive and pancreatic illnesses has been crowned the Chronicle's 'Dandy Dog' 2008.

Regan, who celebrated his first birthday last Sunday, won the finals at the Metrodome on Monday. His owner, Louise Melling, 25, of Tingle Bridge Lane, Hemingfield was overwhelmed.

"Myself and my parents are absolutely flabbergasted. Every week we couldn't believe it, we were all really excited to have a look in the paper."

Regan was voted best looking dog, came second in the 'waggiest tale' category and third in the most obedient. He has been o medication since birth to help with stomach problems.

Louise said: "He had been very poorly, he is coming off his medication now but is still on a strict diet. "He really is coming into his own now though. He is so cheeky but with a really good temperament."

Regan received £50-worth of veterinary treatment from Vets4Pets, a photo session with Stan Plus Stan 2, a dog kennel from Supersheds and a pet portrait from Angela Tubb as his prizes.

Louise, who lives with her parents, said: "Everyone is spoiling him, we have three other dogs in our house and they are not quite sure what is going on."
