GOVERNMENT watchdogs received 110 complaints about Barnsley Council last year.
The figures - 13 per cent down on last year - were revealed in the Local Government Ombudsman's annual letter to council chief executive Phil Coppard.
Barnsley has bucked the national trend with a reduction in complaints about education, but the council was ticked off over its slow replies to enquiries.
Anne Seex first praised Mr Coppard for the quality of council answers then rebuked him for missing the target response time.
She stated: “Slow responses have been a consistent trend over recent years. Investigators have encountered similar delays when requesting further information.”
Mr Coppard is said to have taken action to speed things up and Ms Seex told him she expects to see ‘substantial improvement’ this year.
