FORMER Barnsley Mayoress Brenda Naylor has died, aged 83.

Mrs Naylor, of Cockerham Lane, Barnsley was mayoress, alongside her then husband, Trevor Naylor, in 1991.

She originated from Burton-on-Trent, moving to Barnsley in 1963 with her first husband, Arthur Adams, who was a rep for Barnsley Brewery.

The couple lived in Monk Bretton and, because of Mr Adams's job, were well known in the pubs and clubs.

Mrs Naylor worked in Harvey's furniture store in the town centre and in a paint shop on Sackville Street, before moving to Jack Shepherd's on Church Street where she worked as a shop assistant for many years.

She moved to Galtee More nursing home, Doncaster Road after a bad fall in the summer and died last Wednesday morning.

She leaves a son Keith, grandchildren Scott and Dawn and great grandchildren Georgia and Rowan. Funeral was yesterday at Ardsley crematorium, donations in lieu of flowers for Barnsley Hospice.
