IT would have been an exciting time for three little girls who visited Santa Claus's grotto at the former Butterfield & Massies store.
A photograph of their visit was taken sometime during the 1950s with Leonard Andrews who worked at the Market Hill store and was Father Christmas. He was employed there for 38 years, a pattern maker who designed and made the grotto.
The photograph has been submitted by Jane Hepworth who was a neighbour of Leonard and his wife and daughter for about 20 years.
"Mr Andrews was a very talented man. My husband used to go walking with him and he would sketch scenery and later paint it in oil or water colour."
Butterfields & Massies (now The Walkabout pub) sold men's and women's clothing and numerous household items such as towels, bedding and curtains.
Do any of the girls recognise themselves on the photograph? If so, why not write and tell us about it? Contact Kath Parkin, Barnsley Chronicle, 47, Church Street, Barnsley.
