A NEWLYWED pensioner who launched a ferocious hammer attack on his wife to stop her nagging has been jailed for nine years.
Clifford Wells, 76, met his wife Patricia, 72, through an internet dating agency but their romance soon turned sour as they rowed over the garden at their new bungalow in Rose Hill Close, Penistone.
Former Royal Marine, Wells, bludgeoned his defenceless wife over the head several times with a claw hammer after becoming fed up of her nagging him to do more work, Sheffield Crown Court was told.
Patricia, 72, survived the attack at the couple's home but suffered multiple brain injuries and has been left paralysed on her left side.
