LANDOWNERS in Wombwell have refused to allow a mobile phone company to use their land for a 12.5 metre mobile telephone mast.
Owners of the Royal Oak and Nuwell Shopping Centre were contacted by Telefonica O2 UK Ltd offering money to use their land.
Other locations suggested were Potters of Barnsley; the chimney on Collindridge Road; St Mary's Church - a listed building; Wombwell Conservative Club; Wombwell Cricket Club and the High Street. After consultation these sites were deemed unsuitable.
A pre-planning consultation document has now been sent to local councillors for an application for the pylon to be placed at the junction of Summer Lane, Main Street, West Street and Copeland Road.
