THE victim of a drunken attack that left him in hospital for three days said he feels let down by the justice system after his attacker was given a 15 month sentence.
Graham Holifield was attacked by Jamie Desmond, 18 as he walked along Barnsley Road, Wombwell on November 16.
A 16-year-old was also allegedly involved in the attack. Mr Holifield, 58, of Avon Close, Wombwell, was on his way to a car boot sale in Barnsley at 4am when Desmond pounced on him.
Sheffield Crown Court was told that Mr Holifield was wrestled to the ground three times and repeatedly kicked and punched in the face by the defendant.
Prosecuting, Neil Coxon said each time the victim managed to stagger to his feet Desmond followed him and dragged him back to the ground. The attack eventually ended after a number of witnesses heard shouting and called the police.
The 16-year-old pleaded not guilty and will face trial at the Youth Court in March.
