GUNMEN opened fire at a house in Grimethorpe while the occupants were inside.
No one was injured in the attack at Mount Road, at 10.40pm on Monday but police said shots had been fired at the house.
The alarm was raised after a 999 call was made and Firearms Unit and Barnsley district officers responded. Superintendent David Hartley, operational commander for the district said: "This is an isolated incident, which we are actively investigating. Our CID team is following all lines of enquiry to ensure that the offender, who is believed to have fled the scene before the firearms unit attended, is brought to justice.
"Barnsley does not have regular incidents of this nature and we are determined not to let the individual actions of this offender unbalance or cause fear in our communities. I am determined to quickly bring this offender to justice."
