TWO builders who grabbed and detained a bag-snatcher in the town centre have been awarded for their bravery.

Stephen Senior and Paul Johnson were working near an insurance office on Peel Street when they saw a thief taking a handbag from the offices. They chased him and held him until police officers arrived.

A police commendation states: “Both Stephen and Paul saw the offender and challenged his actions. On approaching him he fled the scene discarding the handbag.

“After ensuring the handbag was safe the two builders pursued and detained the offender who struggled to break free.

"Undeterred by his threats of violence, Stephen and Paul bravely continued to hold onto the offender despite the fact that he could have been armed. They managed to detain him until the police arrived.”

Both men were invited to a lunch hosted by Chief Constable Meredyyd Hughes last week. The awards were handed over in May.
