ARTISTS in Penistone will open their studios to the public over the bank holiday weekend as part of a county wide arts festival to celebrate local talent.

Open up South Yorkshire is an annual art show in which artists open their studios for people to come and look at their work.

Artists Ann Parkin and Caroline Bell will displayi their work at Ann's studio at her home 28 Rookery Way, Thurgoland, from tomorrow to Monday May 4 from 11am to 5pm.

Pieces of Ann and Caroline's work including oil paintings, stitch paintings and etchings will be available to buy and commissions will also be taken.

Ann, whose work is on display in the Cooper Gallery, said: "If the weather is good people can sit out in the garden with refreshments, it is a very social occasion. There are good deals to be had because you are cutting out the gallery fees.

"I'm passionate about art and it's nice to share it with others."

Caroline, whose work includes larger than life drawings of chickens, said it was a good opportunity for people to come along and ask questions.

Caroline, from Oxspring, said: "There will be a wide range of art on offer to suit different tastes. Last year we had visitors from students to retired couples who wanted to know more about art and see how our ideas develop, it's not all about buying pieces."
