WORK on the new super school for Wombwell and Darfield will suffer a 12 month delay because of the building slump and rising costs.
The Advanced Learning Centre at Low Valley is due to replace Wombwell High School and Darfield Foulstone and was scheduled for completion by 2011.
Coun Trevor Smith, said: “The contracts have been signed or are waiting to be signed and the project is still going ahead. But as with a lot of building work going on throughout Barnsley and the rest of Yorkshire, there will now be a year’s delay.
“We are looking at ways to work with the delay – one idea is to operate the two schools, Wombwell High and the Foulstone school, under one lot of governors.
