WORK to improve the former Royston Youth Club site is set to kick off on Monday.

The site on Midland Road had been damaged following a road traffic collision but work is set to take place to enhance the area.

Coun Caroline Makinson, who represents the Royston ward, told the Chronicle the work will be a boost for residents.

She added: “Following damage caused by a road traffic incident, local volunteers from the Royston Green Spaces group and Royston Ward Alliance have been working hard to secure funding to restore this green space to its former glory.

“Work on a new fence has already taken place and the next steps are a flexi-paved path and new planters which local volunteers will plant up and maintain, restoring this green space for all the community to enjoy.

“K.B. Industries will be installing the new path on Monday, June 2.

“If you would like to get involved with future volunteer sessions, then please contact cllrcarolinemakinson@barnsley.gov.uk.

“The Royston Green Spaces Group meets on the first Monday of the month.”
