Penistone Footpath Runners' junior Flynn Rogers capped off an excellent season by finishing third overall in the South Yorkshire Schools Orienteering League.
The series comprised nine events across the year, held in a mix of parks, woodlands, open terrain and urban settings, offering a test of both map-reading skill and versatility over challenging ground.
Flynn and club-mate Oliver France also took part in the South Yorkshire Olympics.
Oliver finished fourth in both the 100m (13-03) and 400m (1-00-36), third in the 800m (2-24-87) and eighth in the 3000m, in which he broke the ten-minute barrier with 9-59-69.
Both Oliver and Flynn lined up in the mile, in which Flynn placed seventh in 5-03-05 with Oliver just behind in eighth with 5-03-48.
The pair then joined forces with Hillsborough & Rivelin Running Club to form a relay team, finishing second in the 4x100m (57-87) and taking victory in the 4x400m (4-20-20).
Penistone’s James Mumford set a PB of 16-44 at the North Derbyshire Running Club Summer Series 5k held at Queen’s Park.
He finished fifth overall and claimed third place in the men’s over45 category. He missed out on the club’s age group record by just two seconds.
Fourteen members of Penistone Footpath Runners took to the hills for the Bamford Carnival Fell Race, tackling the short but sharp course known for a lung-busting climb up Win Hill and fast grassy descent. First back was James Pierce in 37-45 which gave him fourth place in the men’s over50 age category.
First Penistone woman back was Lesley Latchem in 45-03. This gave Lesley second place in the women’s over50 age category. Team-mate Jill Scrivens finished fourth in the women’s over50 category in 46-05. Kelvin Bowskill was third over70 man.
Ackworth Road Runners held their Priory 10k around the grounds of Nostell Priory last Wednesday evening. Barnsley AC’s Gemma Thickett was fourth woman in a course PB of 45-33. Ian Copley and Laura Mills ran course PBs of 53-48 and 57-44 respectively. Penistone’s Lois Lopez was second over50 woman. She then competed in the Yorkshire Veterans Grand Prix in Halifax, finishing fourth over50 and achieving an age-graded score of 75.15 per cent.
Barnsley AC’s Scott Atkinson took part in the Manvers Dusk til Dawn event. Between 6pm and 6am he ran a total of 15 loops equating to 48.78 miles.
At race six of the Oxspring Trunce last week, Rebecca Crossland led Penistone home in 34-02. She finished second overall in the women’s race with Hannah Shaw just behind in 34-13 to take third place. Rebecca Timms’ 38-50 earned her first place in the women’s over40 age category. Barbara Haigh secured an age group win in the women’s over70s with 51-05. On the men’s side, Richard Cottam was second overall in 27-07 and topped the men’s over40 standings. Mark Law was third in the men’s over60 category with a time of 36-28.
In the Junior Trunce, Penistone’s Alexander Wright finished in a PB of 17-02.
