TEENAGERS from Barnsley competed in the English Championships this week.
Maya Schofield, from Royston, finished fifth in the under 17 800m race at the event in Birmingham.
She took bronze in the English Schools Championships earlier this summer and has won all of her other races this year over 800m.
Graihagh Turner, from Penistone, finished ninth in the under 17 1500m with a time of 4-41.71.
At the City of Preston Ten-Mile Race, Penistone’s James Mumford came fifth overall in 58-40.
His time not only secured first place in the men’s over40 category but also set a new men’s over45 club record, his second club record in consecutive weeks.
Barnsley AC’s Beth Massey was fourth woman overall and won the first over50 women’s prize in a time of 35-21.
Chris McNicholas finished as second over60 man with 32-36.
Penistone’s Gemma Nutton claimed a podium finish at the Howden Town 5k, clocking 22-49 to take the third women’s prize and finish 14th overall.
Penistone’s Alan Nutton tackled the Howden 10k, a tough multi-terrain route mixing open roads and trails.
He crossed the line in 36-19 for fifth place overall – capping an excellent night for the husband and wife.
Penistone’s Jill Scrivens was in top form at the Tatton 5k, recording a personal best of 22-57 to take first place in the women’s over55 category.
In the Yorkshire Dales, Penistone’s Nichola McNally took victory in the women’s over55 category at the Littondale Fete Four-Mile Road Race in 26-59.
Jen and Edward Holley took on the Cursa Nocturna de Cala d’Or in Spain.
After entering on a whim when spotting the kilometre markers being set out, they were the only UK runners on the night. Edward stormed to first place in the junior 13–15 category while Jen secured third place in the women’s over40 category in the 11.2k race.
Five Penistone Footpath Runners made the trip for the midweek Cracken Edge fell race, a tough and scenic Peak District classic with a seven-mile course featuring more than 1,000 feet of climbing.
Matt Robinson was first back for the club in 56-08 followed by Chris Hodgson in 61-11, Shaun Swallow in 64-08, Ruby Sanderson in 67-11 and Sarah Jones-Morris in 72-18.
Maltby Running Club’s Butchers Dog Leg was the next race in the KMR Series.
Barnsley AC’s Gail Colville finished as third woman in a time of 27-41.
Ian Copley (33-19), Faye Lund (34-26) and Laura Mills (35-39) also finished the four-mile predominantly off-road race which is the seventh in the series.
Barnsley AC’s Jodie Thompson ran her first 5k at August’s York 5k. Her time was 31-15. Her son Morgan Thompson finished eighth overall in 15-52.
