BARNSLEY Women’s FC began their season with a 3-1 home win over Worcester City on Sunday.
Debutants Tanya Fozzard, Amber Sewell and Helen Lynskey got the goals for the Reds.
They were due to host Sheffield United under 21s in a cup game on Thursday then Boldmere St Michaels on Sunday in the league.
Manager Craige Richardson said: “We were resilient.
“You never know what you’re going to get after pre-season, anyone who says pre-season is smooth is lying.
“We pitched ourselves against some high level teams which served us well. We’re not as good as we can be yet.
“All credit to Worcester who have improved.
“It was a dogfight and I am pleased we stood up to it.
“But when we played football, we looked threatening and it could have been 5 or 6-1.
“I know the quality we’ve got.
“We’ve recruited really well and it’s our job to get them together as one. Hopefully now we can kick on.”
