A HISTORY walk delving into the work of a Barnsley-born missionary who is credited with taking Christianity to China in the 1800s is set to take place next month.
James Hudson Taylor, who moved away from Barnsley in 1854 having been brought up in the town, is revered by millions of people - particularly in south-east Asia - having founded the China Inland Mission (CIM).
Joshua Daniels, a local historian and filmmaker, is set to host the guided walk on September 4.
He said: “The walk is going to start at 10.30am and be centred around the history of James Hudson Taylor, the Barnsley-born Christian who founded the Chinese Inland Mission.
“It will cover the buildings that are relevant to his history.
“It’s going to last around one to two hours so it should be accessible for most.
“I’ve carried out and led around 60 guided heritage walks and this is my latest.”
The walk will start and end at Gateway Church on Mottram Street.
