A DAMP squib of a season for Barnsley clubs – in which none of their first teams were promoted across the 11 South Yorkshire League divisions – ended with a wet final day.

Many games were abandoned or shortened by the wet weather at the weekend.

Darfield and Silkstone United just missed out on promotion on the final day. Silkstone finished two points behind the two promoted teams in Division Five. They defended 115 by bowling Whiston out for 79 but Ackworth also won to finish ahead of them. Chris Barraclough took five wickets and Emilia Rossi three.

They finished as the two top wicket-takers in the division with 50 and 40 respectively.

Darfield missed out on promotion from Division One by six points. They beat Conisbrough by six wickets as Syed Shah took five wickets then Anees Hussain made 96 not out. But Coal Aston, who Darfield needed to lose, beat Penistone by seven wickets. Penistone’s Anthony Godley scored 52.

Monk Bretton were all out for 27 in a ten-wicket loss at Upper Haugh.

Higham are safe from relegation in Division Three after their opponents conceded.

Worsbrough Bridge chased 143 for a five-wicket win over Rockingham 2nd XI. Zarmash Tarakhil and Mark Wilkinson took three wickets each for Bridge with Rock’s Andy Shore making 50.

Wombwell Main were bowled out for 138 in a five-wicket loss to Coal Aston 2nd XI in Division Four.

Green Moor won by 232 runs at home to Millhouses Works in Division Six.

Scott Jones made 88 off 70 balls and Satinderpal Singh hit 60 off 44 balls with five sixes. Singh – the top wicket-taker in the division – took four for nine and Thomas Christopherson three for 18 to bowl Millhouses out for 59.

Dearne chased 126 for a three-wicket win at Sprotbrough 3rd XI in Division Eight. Luke Rankin whacked 51 off 26 balls with five fours and four sixes.

Promoted Houghton Main 2nd XI beat Kexborough 2nd XI by 154 runs.

Waheed Safi (83) and Matt Thornton (88) took Houghton to 227 then Shokoor Ahmadzai took four wickets to finish as the division’s top wicket-taker.

Thomas Green took four wickets for Kexborough.

Monk Bretton 2nd XI chased 171 to beat Wombwell Main 2nd XI by four wickets.

Jack Smith made 81 for Wombwell and Ian Davis 58 not out for the Monks.

Penistone 2nd XI bowled Hatfield Town out for 98 in a five-wicket win. Paul Dalton took four wickets.

Higham 2nd XI won by 36 runs at Stocksbridge 2nd XI in Division Seven.

Anthony White carried his bat with 79 not out in Higham’s 200.

Promoted Worsbrough Bridge 2nd XI dismissed Fishlake 2nd XI for 74 in a six-wicket Division Nine win. Leon Kemp and Adnan Asher took four wickets each.
