PENISTONE Footpath Runners’ junior international Graihagh Turner finished second at the English Schools Fell Championships.
She was representing Penistone Grammar School in the senior girls’ category for years 12 and 13.
Graihagh, who has represented Great Britain in various events, is ranked among the country’s leading young fell athletes. The event took place at Sedbergh School near Settle.
Penistone’s Alan Nutton led the club charge at the Run for Wildlife 5k held at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, finishing fifth overall in 18-53 and taking the win in the men’s over40 category.
Gemma Nutton ran strongly for 22nd female in 24-39 and fifth in her age group, while Andrew Taylor clocked 29-32 for fourth in the men’s over55 category and Tracy Woodward completed the course in 31-59 for eighth in the women’s over55 category.
Meanwhile, Penistone’s Gareth Irvine tackled the DonFaster 5k in Doncaster amid Storm Amy. Returning from illness, he described it as ‘not my best run’ but still produced a solid effort to finish 66th in a chip time of 20-13.
Barnsley Harrier Adam Chambers came eighth in 16-51 and Rich Spooner 17th in 17-38. Barnsley AC’s Lee Yoxall ran a PB of 19-17, knocking five seconds off his time from July’s race.
Penistone’s Stefan Butler-Gillen completed the Oysho Cardiff Half Marathon, part of the SuperHalfs series, running for the Alzheimer’s Society and finishing in 2-01-59. It was his third-fastest half marathon to date. He came 8,938th.
Harrier Emma Stittle finished 13,842nd in 2-13-18.
The Rotherham 10k returned with a new route which started and finished at Wentworth Woodhouse.
Barnsley AC’s Philip Morgan was first over55 man in a time of 40-43.
Jay West led home the 17 Barnsley Harriers with a PB by five minutes and 29 seconds. There were other PBs for Gemma Lister, Alice Moody, Yvonne Bedford and Beverley Pendleton.
Leah Needham and Luke Huddlestone ran their first 10k for the club and came in under the hour.
There was a strong Penistone turn-out, led by Michael Nicholson in 46-21, followed by Pete Beever (47-17), Keith Gordon (56-35), Stu Smith (57-22) and Steve Dommett (1-15-32).
There were PBs all-round at Chester Marathon despite the rough conditions for the four Barnsley AC members.
Wayne Singleton was first back in a time of 2-36-17, followed by Ashley Abrahams (2-40-39), Mark Oxley (2-51-18) and Tayla Brons (3-29-12).
Barnsley AC’s Gail Colville finished as second woman at the Circuito de Carreras Populares Antas 9k trail race with a time of 38-26.
Sarah Elizabeth was the solo Barnsley Harrier at Lincoln Half Marathon with a PB by 11 minutes. She finished 1,277th in 2-09-35.
