MORE than 100 runners gathered at Manvers Lake for the annual Help for Heroes 10k charity race.

The route, made up of two five-kilometre loops, showcased the best of the local landscape.

For some, it was their very first race, while others ran in support of loved ones.

One of the most emotional moments came when a veteran, pushed for much of the course in a wheelchair, stood to walk across the finish line.

The men’s race was won by professional cyclist Ben Swift, crossing the line in a time of 38 minutes and 56 seconds.

The fastest woman on the day was Katie Roberts, a member of Manvers Waterfront Boat Club, who impressed with a finishing time of 47-42.

Mark Benton, Manvers Waterfront Boat Club’s director, said: “It was a brilliant day – we love supporting events like this that bring the community together for such a worthy cause.”
