A coach full of passengers heading to Blackpool is stuck on the M62 near Leeds seven hours after it left Barnsley.

The Chronicle has spoken to people on the Globe Coach who say they are hot, sweaty and increasingly frustrated.

The motorway closed following a fatal accident this morning involving a car and a lorry which overturned.

Sheila Marshall, of Worsbrough Dale was taking granddaughter Devon Altass, six, for a day at the seaside. She said: "We're 26 miles from Manchester and just stuck in the middle of the M62.

"We cannot turn left, rght or any other way. It's very very hot and the air conditioning only works when the bus is moving."

Sheila is diabetic and said: "I'm not getting what I should be getting, which is food and I dread to think what problems that could lead to."

She said Devon was okay but was getting very bored.

Another passenger Robert Baines, 76, and his wife Joan, 73, of Longfields Crescent, Hoyland were picked up at 8.20am.

He said the motorway was already closed when other passengers were collected in Barnsley at about 9am.

"They let people on this bus knowing the M62 was blocked. I'm very angry that we're still on this bus."

Victoria Fell a sales clerk at Globe said the situation was unavoidable and the road closure had lasted much longer than would normally be expected.

She said the driver would have followed diversions if any had been advertised on motorway matrix boards. Passengers stuck on the bus would get a credit note for an alternative trip, she said.

The westbound carriageway is due to reopen this afternoon.
