The body of Shane Beadling, 41, was found at a house on Bartholomew Street, Wombwell, on Friday night.
A statement issued by his family said that, despite personal problems, Shane was a kind and giving person.
They said: "Shane was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone, and he had many friends in the area where he lived. Shane had his problems, and tended to move around a lot, but he always kept in touch with his family, and we will miss him terribly.
"Shane's death has left his family heartbroken and devastated. The family would like their privacy to be respected during this sad time."
A post-mortem revealed Shane had suffered multiple injuries.
Garry Count, 32, of Bartholomew Street, has been charged with murder and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Kerry Musgrave, 31, was charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
The pair appeared at Barnsley Magistrates' Court on Monday.
The case has been committed to Sheffield Crown Court, where they will appear on Monday.
Neither has made a plea.
