BARNSLEY South MP Stephanie Peacock visited the town centre’s new youth hub.

Young people from Base71’s Young People’s Development Group (YPDG) showed the MP around the new multi-million pound venue ahead of its January opening.

The YPDG, a group of local young volunteers, have been an instrumental part of creating the youth zone.

It is part of the OnSide network and will be Yorkshire’s first, located on Schwabisch Gmund Way and opposite Barnsley Interchange, it will feature state-of-the-art facilities - including an indoor climbing wall, music room with a built-in recording studio, a rooftop football pitch, a fully-equipped gym, a dance and drama studio and much more.

Mandy Carlson, CEO of Base71, said: “The members have worked incredibly hard to help create Barnsley’s youth zone.

“Meeting an MP was a fantastic experience for them and they represented Base71 with real pride.”
