A CONCERT guitarist will perform a rediscovered anthem.
Richard Durrant will perform the Barnsley Carol as the ‘Songs of the Solstice’ Christmas tour comes to Barnsley.
The show, which comes to Barnsley Civic on December 11, has become a Christmas tradition for audiences all over the UK.
Richard is once again joined on stage by singer Amy Kakoura, harpsichordist Howard Beach and Daisy Durrant and Django Durrant.
The original tune was written in 1933, by local bottle maker Arthur Godfrey, having been lost for the best part of 100 years.
Richard said: “Arthur’s four-part manuscript is beautifully complimented by the silver tones of my tenor guitar.
“We reckon our group’s version of this special piece is unbeatable.
The performance will also include seasonal folk tunes.
Richard added: “The past twenty winters have been the most magical part of my life - spent playing music and watching my four wonderful children grow up.
“As toddlers they would join me on stage and sing along.
“Now, they come with me on the tour and contribute new songs and ideas.
“We all share a respect for both the Pagan and Christian aspects of midwinter and love spending these mystical weeks with Amy and our extended musical family.”
