A BUS service’s reliability has been brought into question by a councillor.
An ‘increasing number’ of delays and cancellations are affecting the number seven bus service, which connects Barnsley and Rotherham, but covers underserved communities.
Councillor Jake Lodge, who represents the Worsbrough ward, has received a growing number of complaints from frustrated passengers and said the unreliability of the service is having a serious impact on daily life.
Recent weeks have seen multiple instances of the service failing to operate on schedule, with some buses failing to show up at all.
Elderly passengers, young people, and those without access to a car are among the most affected, according to Coun Lodge.
He’s urged the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority to (SYMCA) to look into the number seven’s track record.
“Many residents rely on the number seven bus to get to work, attend medical appointments, access essential services and stay connected,” he said.
“Its route isn’t just another bus service for many people, it is a lifeline.
“When buses are missing or significantly delayed, residents are left stranded, often with no alternative means of travel.
“This is unacceptable and residents deserve a dependable service.
“If a bus is going to be late or cancelled, people must be informed in real time but ultimately, the goal must be to restore a consistent, reliable timetable.”
