DAVIS Keillor-Dunn believes Barnsley could be ‘looking really good’ after the busy Christmas period, and it will be a bonus if he is still leading the way for the top-scorer crown in League One.

The 28-year-old has 13 goals in all competitions, having netted 19 last season, while he is level on ten with Cardiff’s £3million signing Yousef Salech as the top-scorer in the third tier.

Keillor-Dunn told the Chronicle: “I am going to have to try to persuade Adam Phillips to give me a couple of pens to get the golden boot.

“But I want to win games, leagues and accolades for myself.

“If I get the golden boot, even better but it’s mainly about the team and club progressing and I think we’re doing that.

“The Christmas games will be thick and fast which is good for us.

“Momentum is key, if we get a couple of wins on the bounce we’re looking really good.”

Keillor-Dunn has played up front with the three attacking midfielders behind him often being Reyes Cleary, 21, Patrick Kelly, 20, and Vimal Yoganathan, 19.

“They have all been fantastic and none of them are getting ahead of themselves.

“It’s refreshing to see young boys just wanting to learn.

“There are a couple of experienced boys in there guiding them and keeping them right.

“It’s a really good feeling as a team and we have a lovely blend.

“A lot of the young lads are international players as well so it will be a really good experience for them.

“The more they play the more onus we put on them to keep showing for the ball and not hiding away.”

Keillor-Dunn’s latest goal was the winner against Leyton Orient on Saturday, tapping into an empty net after a bad defensive error.

“I couldn’t really get involved as much as I like but I knew there would be a chance.

“It was pleasing in the end to get the winner.

“As long as I am in those positions the ball will fall at some point and I just have to be there to finish it.”

Keillor-Dunn has played as a ‘false nine’ this season, a striker in a 4-2-3-1 but with permission to drop deep at times.

“I have still got license to drop in and get on the ball which has been made clear by the coaching staff.

“That’s exactly what I want. I have to be that outlet when it gets flashed across the box. If I am not, it’s on me.

“I have the ownership to drop deep, link play and be on the last line which is perfect for me.”

Jon Russell came off the bench to equalise, having barely featured in the league this season. Keillor-Dunn said: “Jon has been fantastic, kept his head down. He hadn’t played as much as he probably would have wanted but he’s a great lad to have around the team, always driving standards. He’s been fantastic, he deserved his goal because he changed the game.”
