Conor Hourihane has responded to stories that Barnsley have told clubs top-scorer Davis Keillor-Dunn is available for transfer.

The 28-year-old is the Reds’ top-scorer this season and is thought to be on the radar of other clubs.

It has been reported that they are ‘ready to cash in’ on him.

Head coach Hourihane said: “I don’t think we’re going out there, broadly, and saying ‘Davo is available to be sold.’ That’s not right at all.

“But everyone has got a value, not just at Barnsley.

“If we put £3million on the table for a Bolton player, no doubt get we’d get him.

“Everyone has a value and at this level – in League One and League Two – so if someone comes in and puts the right money on the table, you have to consider it unfortunately and I'm not saying that’s the case.

“We’re absolutely not telling clubs we’re selling Davo.

“It’s typical agents looking after their clients and trying to get suitors. The amount of things you see on social media is stark and if you believe everything you read we’re all in a bit of trouble. I think it’s a bit of nonsense really.”

Midfielder Jon Russell, who had not started any games in the league this season, has been loaned to Mansfield.

Hourihane said: “His contract was coming up.

“He wasn’t getting the minutes he would have liked.

“He’s found it difficult because in my opinion we have really good midfielders.

“Someone like Patrick Kelly in his position is playing out of his skin. He can’t come out of the team.

“It’s the best scenario for everyone that he moves on.”

Goalkeeper Jackson Smith has been loaned to Grimsby for the rest of the season.

“It’s important that Jackson gets minutes to advance his career. He trains well every day.

“He will have an extended period at Grimsby then come back in the summer and we’ll assess it and go from there.”

Neil Farrugia has only started twice in the league under Hourihane.

“It’s been difficult for Neil to adapt to this level. He’s had injuries which have set him back. He’s done really well in a couple of cup games and other times he’s found the level maybe challenging. He’s found it difficult to stay consistent. He has a lot of ability and trained well. He’s found it hard to get minutes regularly, for the time being he’s in the plans but knowing his minutes are limited.”
